The Onion design light is a popular design by Verner Panton, created in 1977 and now manufactured by Verpan. The Onion light comes as a pendant light as well as table lamp style. The AMEBA Light was designed by Spanish designer Pete Sans for Barcelona based lighting manufacturer VIBIA. AMEBA is a new pendant concept adaptable and adjustable to every space thus allowing selecting and creating compositions according to every need and preference. This light fitting is made of 5 different basic shapes that fit perfectly and can be combined among themselves to offer an unlimited range of compositions.

Lilja and Nordberg have have created lamps out of what would otherwise be considered waste material. At the 2009 DMY Design Festival in Berlin, designers Petra Lilja and Jenny Nordberg of the Malmö, Sweden based design studio APOCALYPSE, exhibited their Blob lamps.

The design duo’s work puts an emphasis on sustainable products made from recycled waste material, their Blob lamps are a good example of this. In the plastics manufacturing industry, when machinery is being setup to produce a run of plastic products, they first need to adjust the machinery, and clumps of waste plastic are produced in the process.

Created by 20.87 estúdio from São Paulo, Great4Mechanics desk lamp and chandelier was inspired by the mechanic workshop universe. It’ was concepted to be a free-assembly object, remiting to classic designs or a great new design, all you need is imagination, and some spontainety to build it. Anne Romme & Fiyel Levent met while studying at The Cooper Union School of Architecture and have been collaborating on furniture, installations, and interior designs for the past two years. Their design aesthetic is based around traditional materials and craftsmanship, but they add a twist by focusing on technology in their fabrication techniques.

The patterns used for the floor lamps originated as pen and ink drawings and were inspired by the work of Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa. The design duo says they were further inspired by other Japanese designs–Isama Noguchi’s paper lights, for instance.
